Help Sierra Breathe is an effort by community organizers to respond to extremely hazardous air quality near the Caldor Fire. We currently have groups in Placerville, Grass Valley, and Reno, and need both more volunteers in those places as well as volunteers throughout the Sierra Nevada region and remote roles which can be filled from anywhere.
The basic goal is to get as many N95s to people stuck outside in the smoke (farmworkers, unhoused people, evacuees in tents, etc). We may expand to other supplies like air purifiers or general fire and post-fire needs depending on capacity. We are a small but mighty team. Hope to hear from you!
We need both virtual and on the ground volunteers.
Examples of what we need, feel free to offer other things that may be useful, too:
On the ground
– distributing masks to people in need
– drivers locally and who can run supplies from major cities like Sacramento, the SF Bay Area, and Vegas
– people and businesses with space, trucks
– connection to resource distributions that could also use N95 masks
Virtually
– social media writers
– organize images coming from on the ground
– volunteer coordinators across a large region
– help with internal communication
We recognize that people discriminated against in society often have the most knowledge of how to navigate crisis and broken situations and therefore we are proud to be a multiracial, trans queer and ally, disabled-inclusive group, and we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds open to approaching crisis relief from a diversity and social justice perspective.
